William (Bill) Dance is Counsel at FROST LLP. He has a broad general commercial litigation practice that encompasses a wide range of business disputes across sectors, including real estate; food and supplement labeling, regulation, and safety; and products liability, primarily pharmaceutical products and medical devices. In addition to Bill’s litigation work, he counsels clients on risk avoidance and mitigation.

Across his legal career of over 20 years, Bill has represented clients in federal and state courts, arbitrations, and mediations. He has successfully handled business disputes, civil fraud, commercial lease matters, environmental contamination and CERCLA matters, a variety of other real estate-related disputes, disputes over state and municipal regulatory overreach, product liability and personal injury defense, and insurance coverage disputes. His significant courtroom experience includes time spent as a volunteer city attorney and county deputy district attorney, serving as lead prosecutor in a number of misdemeanor criminal jury and bench trials as well as evidentiary hearings.

He has practiced at large and mid-sized law firms, including O’Melveny & Myers, Tucker Ellis, and Sklar Kirsh.

Beyond his zealous advocacy for his clients, Bill has lectured and penned journal articles on legal trends and rule and evidentiary shifts. His commentary has addressed eDiscovery, litigation holds, and rules of evidence. He has also written, and has been quoted extensively in the media, on the legal implications of various food safety and food labeling topics. Bill also values pro bono and community work, having represented clients needing assistance in association with Bet Tzedek and Alliance for Children’s Rights.

Bill’s first career was in the film and television industry, where he worked as a screenwriter, director, producer, and editor for fifteen years before pursuing a law career. He earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 2003. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley, with Highest Honors, and a Master of Fine Arts in film production from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. Bill is licensed to practice law in California.

When he is not working, Bill spends his time with his family, including a son and two daughters.
