Timothy (Tim) Laquer is a seasoned litigator who vigorously pursues practical and effective solutions for a wide variety of clients and cases. Having played a leadership role at a small law firm beginning early in his career, Tim knows that details matter and prides himself on having intimate knowledge of every aspect of a case, from minute details around procedural deadlines to big-picture case strategies and overall litigation goals.
In his general commercial litigation practice, Tim has represented large and small businesses, a municipality, and numerous individuals in a wide variety of civil matters, including complex commercial, tort, employment, and others. He has obtained substantial judgments in favor of plaintiff clients and critical dismissals in favor of defendant clients. He also has extensive appellate experience including multiple rounds of appellate briefing and oral argument, with a notable case involving fighting off an involuntary bankruptcy on behalf of a small technology and online media company with numerous appellate issues, briefs, and arguments for seven years that ultimately resulted in a complete dismissal in favor of the company. His appellate work includes a petition for writ of certiorari with the United States Supreme Court.
Early in his career, Tim rapidly gained invaluable experience as he began working for a small law practice while still at law school and went on to handle major civil litigation matters for the same firm. He was second chair at a trial six months after being admitted to the Bar and first chair at an unlawful detainer trial shortly thereafter.
Tim excels at both oral advocacy and written work; his proficiency in writing included drafting and revising multiple yearly editions of the Westlaw-published treatise Expert Witnesses in Civil Trials: Effective Preparation and Presentation, which included researching new cases regarding experts in states and federal courts, writing new sections related to intellectual property cases and expert involvement, and revising existing text.
Tim earned his undergraduate degree in architectural studies with a minor in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles and his J.D. from Pepperdine University’s Caruso School of Law. At Pepperdine, Tim graduated in the top 10% of his class, served on the Pepperdine Law Review, and received awards for the highest grades in multiple courses including Corporations, Securities Regulation, Patent Law, and Communications Law. He is admitted to the State Bar of California, the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Northern Districts, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
In his free time, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife and son, visiting amusement parks with his family, cooking, traveling (including living in Berlin for a summer after graduating from UCLA), and building computers.
