Louise Nutt is a strategic and experienced commercial litigator with a broad-based practice representing clients across entertainment, energy and utility, finance and virtual currency, and real estate, among other fields. She excels at investigating, researching, and strategizing around details of cases, applicable law, public records investigations, and regulations.
Over the course of her career, Louise has handled litigation in state and federal court for individual and corporate clients in banking, emerging technologies, energy and utility, entertainment, fintech and cryptocurrency, and commercial and residential real estate. Her footprint as an entertainment litigator is significant, having represented clients ranging from motion picture studios to creative talent to management. She has successfully handled a significant number of complex business litigation matters, particularly partnership disputes, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and fraud claims. Louise has advised corporate clients on legal issues around social media policies, issues presented by crypto / virtual currencies, and legal considerations in relation to mobile apps.
Measured in her approach to legal strategy, Louise devotes a portion of her practice to counseling clients and in particular to preparing clients as witnesses for trial. She also draws on her love of research and her regulatory knowledge to advise clients on the potential interpretation of new regulations across various industries.
Louise spent her early years in Europe and Asia. She earned an undergraduate degree in political science and a Juris Doctor from Stanford University, where she served as an editor-in-chief of the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights & Civil Liberties. Louise also worked in the Stanford Immigrants’ Rights Clinic. She is licensed to practice law in California and is admitted before the United States District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Southern Districts of California, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
On her own time, Louise prioritizes giving back to her community. She has previously served on the Board of Directors of St. Joseph Center, a non-profit that focuses on providing services to the unhoused community in Los Angeles. Louise currently serves on the Governance Council of ACE NextGen, a nonprofit for AAPI entrepreneurs.
